This is a must do running tour of Zagreb that will take you through the main attractions of both Lower and Upper Town.

Zagreb Lower Town
Breaking the urban uniformity is a series of interconnected garden squares, laid out from the 1870s onwards, which gives the downtown area a U-shaped succession of promenading areas and parks.

Known as Lenuci?s Horseshoe, this was a deliberate attempt to give Zagreb a distinctive urban identity, providing it with public spaces bordered by the set-piece institutions ? galleries, museums, academies and theaters ? that were thought every modern city should have.

The first of the horseshoe?s two main series of squares starts with Trg Nikole ?ubi?a Zrinskog ? usually referred to as Zrinjevac ? which begins a block South of Trg bana Jela?i?a. To the West of Zrinjevac is the second line of squares, culminating with Trg mar?ala Tita. To the South are the Botanical Gardens, which were intended to provide the final green link between the two arms of the horseshoe, but didn?t quite manage as several characterless downtown blocks prevent it from joining Tomislavov trg to the East.

Zagreb Upper Town
The splendid cobblestone streets and red tiled roofs of the buildings in medieval Gornji Grad, Zagreb\'s Upper Town, make for a beautiful place to begin a sightseeing tour of the Croatian capital. Upper town is home to many of the city\'s most visited tourist attractions, including the cathedral, parliament building, and numerous museums and churches. Other highlights include the famous stone gate marking the entrance to the Eastern side of Gradec Town; Kaptol Square, notable for its many early 17th-century buildings. Perhaps the most striking feature is St. Mark\'s Church, easily recognizable by its brightly colored tile roof bearing the coats of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia, Slavonia, and Zagreb city.
