Leon Viejo and Colonial City Tour from Managua
The ruins of Leon Viejo is an archaeological site and park of the original town of Leon founded by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba. This town used to be the economic capital of the colony until its inhabitants abandoned it in 1610 in fear of the constantly erupting Momotombo volcano nearby.

The town inhabitants relocated 30 kilometers west to where the current city of Leon is located. Archaeological excavations began recently in 1999. In 2000, Leon Viejo was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Managua and be taken to the archaeological park. The park is well maintained and a guide will explain the colonial history behind the ruins of the old buildings. After a visit to old Leon, you’ll have a chance to see the actual city of Leon and indulge in its rich colonial architecture and history.

At the end of the tour, you will be taken back to your hotel in Managua.
