Healthy Eating in Montreal: Food Tour and Cooking Demo
Montreal is home to an innovative food scene that specializes in a sustainable approach to producing and consuming food. Discover what it\'s all about on this unique culinary cycling tour with a professional food guide. Start at an upscale restaurant known for its healthy and interesting vegan cuisine. The academy includes a demonstration in how to prepare delicious dishes, with tastings. You\'ll also enjoy high-end vegan Thai food at ChuChai, stop at Crudessence, and visit a food- or drink-production site, where you’ll discover how Montrealers are creating environmentally responsible products.

After meeting your local guide and group in Montreal’s Plateau neighborhood, get fitted with a bike and helmet. After a short safety briefing, head out through the Mile End district, through shady lanes lined by interesting buildings.

Head to local eatery Crudessence, one of Montreal’s best-known vegan restaurants. Crudessence promotes the philosophy that a diet free of all animal products is good for the environment, as well as for your health and quality of life. When you arrive at the loft, sit down for the introductory demonstration of how to create delicious dishes out of organic vegan ingredients. Taste samples of dishes like vegan key lime pie, raw chocolate or fresh seed milk.

Next, visit two of four food-production sites, depending on the day of your tour — rooftop uban gardens, rooftop greenhouses or a mushroom growing facility. Learn about urban agriculture, beekeeping and mushroom growing through these visits and commentary from your local guide.

Your last stop last stop is ChuChai, a fashionable vegan Thai restaurant popular for its innovative twist on meat substitutes that are so good, most people who aren\'t aware that the meat is fake don\'t have a clue it\'s not real. The menu changes here, but typical dishes include crispy ‘duck,’ lemon ‘fish,’ yellow ‘beef’ curry, and eggplant and ‘shrimp.\' You’ll also enjoy a glass of nut or seed milk, Thai tea, a dessert like chocolate mousse or banana fritters, and a glass of kombucha.

Your tour ends back at the DYAD bike shop.

Total cycling distance is 6 miles (10 km).
