In 1966 the wine maker built a modest winery at Gymno, a tiny vineyard commune inside the Nemea Region. Increased demand, both at home and abroad, for his bottled wines has prompted the building of a new, ultramodern winery near Argos, the one that we will visit.

Approaching its Estate, the first thing one notices is the large, lovely terracotta-colored building surrounded by vineyards. The building contains state-of-the-art wine cellars, several tasting areas, and a wine bar, as well as a small wine museum. Dimitris, our host, will through a winery tour and will be our guide into the world of Greek wines. He is knowledgeable and passionate about the wines. His enthusiasm, and his detailed and colorful descriptions of each wine will enhances the tasting experience. During the tour we will have the opportunity to see the Winery and the Vineyards, but also relax while sipping their wines in the Wine lounge bar. They are famous not only for crafting excellent wines but also for creating memorable experiences. The history of local wines, the blight which occurred to the vineyards in the 1980\'s, the establishment of the Winery, and the wine-making process will be discussed with them.

The Peloponnese, rich in ancient ruins from its glorious past, has been cultivated with vineyards for many centuries. The northeastern Peloponnese, home to Mycenae and Epidaurus, has been blessed with ideal growing conditions for vineyards. Indigenous grape varieties in Nemea, Argolida, Arcadia and Mantinia include the white varieties, Roditis, Sklava, Moschofilero and the red Aghiorghitiko. International varieties such as Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are also cultivated and display strong terroir.

This winery is well designed to welcome wine lovers and to receive guests. Their cellar is impressive, very nicely lit with this beautiful smell of wine that ages. You really should know that this winery produces 1 million bottles a year and they are sold worldwide having won several awards. It is in the wine region of Nemea, a Protected Designation of Origin for Greek red wines. They are also very close to the wine region of Mantinia, a PDO for white wines. As a result, their vineyards throughout the area produce grapes resulting in both complex red and delightful white wines.

All this information will make you feel hungry. You will be able to eat here, combining great flavors with the most suited wins. A trip to this winery is a treat for the senses and an experience in wine education. If you think of Greek wine as no more than the humble retsina, think again. This winery will delight and enlighten you, and introduce you to some wonderful new Greek wines!
