The Alphabet District in Northwest Portland is one of the city?s oldest neighborhoods and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Your food tour of this charming area begins at Besaw?s, a beloved local restaurant and bar that dates back to 1903. Meet your guide here and enjoy your first tasting of the day ? something light and refreshing like a mimosa made with seasonal fruits and a creative salad made with veggies, possibly grown in the backyard garden.

From here, continue your culinary adventure through the neighborhood, following an approximate 10-block route down NW 23rd Avenue between NW Thurman and NW Johnson streets. As you walk, your guide will tell you a bit about the history and present-day culture of this ever-popular district, where classic Craftsman- and Queen Anne-style houses sit amid the many restaurants, bars, galleries, quirky shops and gardens.

At each food and drink joint, talk with chefs and business owners to get the inside scoop on their delicious creations. You?ll taste everything from Reuben sliders to a glass of Oregon?s famous pinot noir at both brick-and-mortar restaurants and an on-the-go food cart. Savor bagels and cream cheeses and a mini-croissant tasting. Plus, take a tour of one of Portland?s up-and-coming craft distilleries.

Your tour ends at The Meadow, where your tour will come to a close with a gourmet salt tasting and artisanal chocolate sampling. Total walking distance is 1 mile (1.6 km).
