Ketchikan Floatplane Ride and Crab Feast
Combine two quintessential Alaskan experiences ? a floatplane ride and a Dungeness crab feast ? on this memorable tour from Ketchikan. Start with a flightseeing tour flying high above the beautiful alpine landscape of Tongass National Forest. Then land at the remote George Inlet Lodge to indulge in a meal of crab with melted butter, salad, potatoes and cheesecake. You?ll end your experience with a scenic drive back to Ketchikan along the coast of Revillagigedo Island. This tour is limited to 12 people, ensuring you enjoy a small-group experience.

Begin your Ketchikan combo adventure at the Visitors Center across from the port, where your sightseeing flight takes off from the Tongass Narrows, the Y-shaped stretch of water between Ketchikan and Gravina Island that?s home to more floatplanes than nearly anywhere else in the world. As you rise up in the air, look down upon Ketchikan and marvel at the views of Tongass National Forest and surrounding mountains.

Listen to narration from your pilot about the landmarks below, and hear about the history of your de Havilland Beaver floatplane, which was only produced from 1947 to 1967 and was featured on a special edition of the Canadian quarter in 1999. After 20 minutes of flying, touch down at the George Inlet Lodge, a rustic retreat across the southern tip of Revillagigedo Island from Ketchikan. When you land, meet your host, who will greet you with a taste of smoked salmon and regale you with fun facts about the history of the lodge, including its 90-mile (145-km) journey across the ocean to its current location.

Take a seat in the Oceanside Dining Room and prepare for your crab feast, which includes romaine salad with homemade Asian-style dressing, steamed red potatoes and succulent Dungeness crab with melted butter. Enjoy a second helping of crab if you?re up for more, and then savor a piece of cheesecake with Alaskan blueberry sauce.

When you?ve finished eating, browse the gift shop to pick up souvenirs, and then head back to Ketchikan on a 30-minute narrated coastal drive that takes you past totem poles, a fish hatchery and the Ketchikan coast guard station. Your experience ends with return to the Ketchikan port and Visitors Center.
